• Meningiomas are frequent primary tumors of the nervous system and can occur anywhere along the neuraxis, including intracranial, spinal (gross pathology - below), intraventricular and extracranial sites
  • Spinal meningiomas form only a small proportion of all meningiomas (12%) and are the second most common spinal neoplasm following schwannomas
  • Most meningiomas are benign and do not invade the parenchyma, although malignant variants exist (ex. anaplastic meningioma)
